Air Surveillance Radar Tower (ASR-9)
The Tampa ASR-9 tower implemented the use of the standard intermediate activity tower design base and added an alternate framing at the shaft to equipment transition point.
This type of tower was used because based on the siting the tower had to reach a height of approximately 135 feet. The tower was in a high wind zone due to hurricanes and this would not have been possible with a standard ASR (truss style) design.
