Wards Ferry Pump Station Upgrades
Wiley|Wilson worked with the City of Lynchburg to renovate and upgrade the Wards Ferry Pump Station to increase the station capacity and reliability from 1.0 MGD to 2.2 MGD. This pump station provides the City with redundancy to supply key demand centers from either the Abert Water Treatment Plant (WTP) or College Hill WTP.
All improvements required to achieve a firm capacity of 2.2 MGD were contained within the existing pump station footprint. The pump station is fully integrated with the City’s SCADA system to allow seamless operation from the City’s College Hill WTP. As part of the project, the design team completed extensive WaterCAD hydraulic modeling to confirm the maximum pump station capacity and identify pressure zone boundary adjustments needed to maximize pump station capacity and improve water pressure for adjacent customers.
